I am hoping to be able to hit up the ERS rally in early December. I was hoping to get on some dirt, but this it's a tarmac event and the only one I might be able to go to for a while.

I don't have a "rally tarmac" setup so I am wondering what I should do. I am sure there are some that have done Rally Tennessee that didn't have a dedicated tarmac setup, but what did they use?

I already have cobb f+r swaybars, so I was thinking of putting those on. I was also thinking about putting the stock STi suspension back on, but I am not sure if there are any jumps or anything at ERS. For tires, I was just planning on running the summer tires that I already have.

Anyone have any experience or input?

A-pillar gusset question.

I was recently asked, and couldn't answer, whether or not gussets are required from the a-pillar support to door bars when the a-pillar tube ('windscreen pillar reinforcement in FIA parlance) is continous (does not go 'through' the door bars in the same plane). See FIA drawing 253-15.

I used to think (not sure why) that they were only required if the a-pillar bar went through the door bars, but I'm leaning the other way now. The italicized portion below seems to say that, even if the a-pillar reinforcement is continuous and does not go through the door bars, sheet metal gussets are required. Can someone who has recently done tech/log booking, or an inspector weigh in on this? Here's the relevant FIA reg.

I know that FIA reg. 8.3.2.1.5 "Reinforcement of bends and junctions" states that there must be a reinforcement (gusset) between:

- the diagonal members of the main rollbar,
- the roof reinforcements (configuration of Drawing 253-12 and only for cars homologated as from 01/01/2007),
-the doorbars (configuration of Drawing 253-9),
- the doorbars and the windscreen pillar reinforcement (Drawing
253-15), must be reinforced by a minimum of 2 gussets complying with article 253-8.2.14. If the doorbars and the windscreen pillar reinforcement are not situated in the same plane, the reinforcement may be made of fabricated sheet metal, provided it complies with dimensions in Article 253-8.2.14.

I'm new to DI and rally-xing, so I thought I'd see when the next trip up to Cal City might be. I went for the first time last weekend, but took it easy as I went solo. Needless to say, I couldn't believe just how big it was, and I'm very interested in another trip.

ok i got the rally bug, currently running agx suspension and adding ground controle coil over conversion for cheap suspension. currently have 215/45r17 tires and wheels on car, but those got to go. need some help before i order

going to switch to team dynamic pro rally 1 wheels(flat black or anthracite is in debate) here are my questions:

They offer 15x6 and 15x7, everyone seems to say 15x6 since theres more tires for them but are they livable driving on everyday, almost seems to skinny?

what offset, i have read people running +40, is that the correct offset to run?

can i clear 206/65? or go with 170/65? wheels and tires driven everyday on

which would look sicker a flat black on the dark blue impreza's with carbon accents or the anthracite?

You damn right! Its that wonderful time of year again. Due to my limited mobility I gotta use vehicles for getting around during hunting seasons and I can legally shoot from the vehicle. So.... I gotta conceal as must as I can. It's a work in progress right now and I'm testing the effectiveness of materials while out dove hunting. Its a mesh so more camo (grasses etc.)will be sewn on depending where I set up for turkey/deer. I doubt I'll take it duck hunting, unless its real dry out for some reason. I still gotta cut everything to fit better but here is a little bit of whats to come.

The camo is realtree advantage, Everything but the windows will get solid color backing and more exterior camouflage. I like this stuff because you can see great looking through it from the inside of the car.

I'm shooting doves at a 1:1 ratio right now... 1 dove per box of shells :)

Any one else got a camo subie?

The 149-year-old Mt. Washington Auto Road has seen the likes of horses and carriages, camels, people, bicycles and most famously, competition race cars. Yesterday, traveling at an average speed of nearly 72 miles per hour in a Vermont SportsCar prepared, BFGoodrich Tires-shod 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car, four-time Rally America National Champion Travis Pastrana made sure the project name, Red Bull Speed Chasers, lived up to its name. He reached the summit faster than anyone else in history by clocking an officially timed run of 6 minutes 20.47 seconds, besting the previous record by more than twenty seconds. Amazingly, Pastrana achieved the impressive time on his first ever high-speed run to the summit. Pastrana has effectively thrown down the gauntlet in advance of the legendary Mt. Washington “Climb to the Clouds” Automobile Hillclimb, which will take place in 2011 after a 10-year hiatus.

The 7.6-mile-long Mt. Washington Auto Road is one of the ultimate challenges for driver and automobile, the serpentine tarmac and gravel road is lined with trees and dangerous drop-offs above the mountain’s tree line as it winds its way to the 6,288 foot summit of the Northeast’s tallest peak. The road, which features more than 100 turns, is mostly paved but features a technical dirt section that is approximately one mile long. The road climbs 4,618 ft from an altitude of 1,527 ft with an average gradient of 11.6%.

Pastrana was up to the challenge, and on his first attempt was able to set his fast time, besting “Climb to the Clouds” Hillclimb record holder Frank Sprongl’s time of 6 minutes 41.99 seconds, set in 1998. Pastrana attempted three more runs but each time he was slowed by near zero visibility conditions at near the summit, as low rain clouds inundated the area. Pastrana’s test session was officially sanctioned by RallyCar (formerly Rally America).

“This is an amazing road, it’s just so much fun,” said Pastrana, who last New Year’s Eve, set the world record for distance jumping in a car at 269 feet. “It’s extremely challenging, there is no room for error and the scenery is epic. The Mt. Washington Auto Road has some amazing history to it.”

Pastrana, with his Vermont SportsCar team, as well as officials from the Mt. Washington Auto Road, conducted the Red Bull Speed Chasers test session to evaluate the road conditions ahead of the 2011 Climb to the Clouds, which will make a return June 22-26, 2011 as part of the 150th anniversary of the Mt. Washington Auto Road.

Pastrana teamed with veteran co-driver Marshall Clarke of Ireland on his runs to the summit. The duo spent Tuesday familiarizing themselves with the auto road in a street car at legal roads speeds and made detailed stage notes, the same process used for stage rally competition. Both Pastrana and Clarke had never driven the Mt. Washington Auto Road before, and thus the detailed notes played a key role in the at-speed attempt the following day.

The Mt. Washington Auto Road was completed in 1861 and is the oldest man-made attraction in North America. Considered one of the oldest motorsports events in the United States, the Climb to the Clouds was first run in 1904, with a winning time of 24 minutes 37 seconds, seven years before the first 500-mile race at the Brickyard in Indianapolis and twelve years prior to the inaugural Pikes Peak Hillclimb in Colorado.
The Climb to the Clouds was then run sporadically until 1961, making a comeback in the 1990’s. The last time the Climb to the Clouds ran was in 2001 on a shortened course due to severe weather. In fact, the highest-recorded wind speed in the United States – an incredible 231 miles per hour - was on Mt. Washington in 1934.

“Travis’ run was incredibly thrilling on a number of fronts,” said Howie Wemyss, General Manager of the Mt. Washington Auto Road. “It’s amazing that he was able to drive that car to the summit in 6:20, and all the more so when you realize that he and his co-driver had just seen the Auto Road for the first time the day before, and the top quarter-mile was in thick fog! Our racing heritage here at the Auto Road runs deep, having started in 1904 and now Travis is part of that heritage as the fastest person to the summit by automobile."

Hi everyone!

I have been approached by Anders to help recruit people for something new they want to try out at Black River Stages. It involves using volunteers that have access to a phone and a computer to help with scoring. The advantage of this is that you can help a rally run, and not have to do any traveling! Get to see scores as they come in... be the first to know who's winning! Here's some details:

Quote:

Our new scoring system is all online. We are looking for volunteers to help
with stage time entry. Because the whole thing is online, and we have good
cell coverage at all the controls, we want to try "Telecommuting
Volunteers" which I think will be a first for rally in this country.

So when a stage is over, the control volunteers with the time logs will
call up one of the numbers on the "virtual scoring team" list and read them
the car numbers and times, which gets typed in to the web page. I timed it
and the call is about 5 cars per minute, so it looks like this rally would
be a 5 or six minute call.

Naturally, with this technology, the volunteer could be anywhere in the
world.

We'll have activity on Saturday Sep 18 from 5pm-11pm EST and on Sunday
Sep19 from 10am-8pmEST. People just have to be somewhere with cell signal and a net connection.

I'm looking for 4 or 5 people each day (or more) (or, people could do two
days if they wanted to) for what would probably be a total of six 5 minute
phone calls worth of volunteering. We'll mail official event t-shirts out
to these volunteers too. Annnnnd, they would of course get to see the rally results before the public does.

First post and new to Subaru, LOTS os questions! So many questions so i will start by saying GREAT SITE!!! LOVE MY Subaru!!!

First; do i have to pull the axel shaft to change the bearings in the rear?
Next; what is the best hub puller for both front and rear?
Next but not last will ask more later; is a 12 ton press enough to remove and install the bushings in the rear links?

I have to replace the struts and springs so was thinking might as well go all out and do the front and rear complete. This forester runs really good with 91K miles everything works as it should few small dents no rust other than rusty bolts:pissed:. Please help if you can.

Michelin will return to the World Rally Championship next year--and it has already begun testing its tires--while current supplier Pirelli has finally decided it will not return to the sport as a result of new tire rules.
Pirelli cited a lack of transparency in the new regulations as the reason for its withdrawal.
“In December, we tendered for another three-year deal to supply tires to the WRC,” said Pirelli's motorsports director Paul Hembery. “Once again, our tender included finance for continued investment in the Pirelli Star Driver scheme, which we financed from its inception in 2008. That three-year tender was rejected and we were offered a one-year extension on the same terms as the current three-year deal. But that was then changed again to a one-year deal under brand-new conditions, which at this point became unacceptable. Finally, we were presented with the current regulations, which we feel represents neither a control tire nor competition.
"It's our belief that these rules have serious limitations, and we've communicated our concerns to the FIA, which is why we will not be supplying tires to the WRC next year.”
Meanwhile, Peugeot's occasional Intercontinental Rally Challenge driver Stephane Sarrazin has been testing tires for Michelin in the south of France on asphalt and at Chateau Lastours on gravel.
French company Michelin entered the WRC in 1973 and competed regularly until 2005, when it rebranded as BF Goodrich. Since the end of 2007, it switched its allegiance to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge after Pirelli won the sole-tire-supplier contract for the WRC.
So looks like we won't be seeing Pirelli badges on tires, nor BFGoodrich but rather the return of Bibby (aka Michelin Man)
