So the little bro was helping me and i was obviously not watching what we was doing and he stripped the diff drain plug out of the case!!! apperently in his world its righty lossy...
![]() So as a temp fix i have some Teflon tape and RTV holding it in place, i can get it about hand tight ~10ft/lb befor it pops out again, its holding for now at least. The best plan i can come up with for a fix is retappping (insert alternative suggestions here ) trouble is while i am faily certain that the stock plug is M26x1.5 finding for instance an M27 plug is fairly hard to do. I talked with Dimple and they sugtgested their 3/4 NPT size plug which he measured to be .003 inch bigger then our T70 M26 plugs. (apparently NPT has a standard for tread taps? not really sure but he measured the diff with his fancy tool) Im hoping some one can give this idea their blessing, or in a perfect world help be find an alternative (Link to a M27x1.5 drain plug?), changing out the diff case in not an option. In case anyone is interested this is a 2006 4EAT Forester. Thanks in advance - Jack |

How are the threads on the plug itself? If they are ok couldn't you get a heli-coil or similar deal and put that in? I used a heli-coil kit on my engine block for the header bolt and its still holding up fine.

Ya, I'd try a heli-coil (heal a coil ?) on there first. supposedly if they work its fixed back to as good as stock ...
and your 1/4" plan can be your back up plan.

That sucks! I'd have to echo the heli coil advice though. That's probably your easiest route. I guess the other alternative would be to bore it out and re-tap.

The hellia coil idea sound cool. I'm going to stop by a local engine builder as he's the only one in the area with a tap big enough. I'll have to bring up that idea. I hope they make one big enough lol. I'll keep you guys posted
