It's just a 20D... I'm not going to get it pro-cleaned. I've tried the cleaning kit... it didn't remove all of the spots, but it helped quite a bit.

I've had other X11 stuff work for me. I'll have to try again.

those are *hopefully* lens spots, had the sensor pro-cleaned before memorial weekend when I had a wedding to shoot.
Like I said, that was just a quick RAW process, didn't go through and do any other post. I'm of the mindset that available lighting >>> relying on artificial light. Just started using flash & lighting equipment in the last year. It's fun, still find myself leaning toward using available light whenever possible. I agree that getting things as right as possible in camera is the ideal. When shooting in constantly changing conditions, such as a windy, partly cloudy to suddenly super bright day, makes that a challenge, RAW has saved many-a-photos for me! That and I get focused on composition and incorrectly expose. Need to work on that. For adding watermarks, check out Watermark Factory, think it's < $50, has really nice control for watermark overlaying. I did a quick search, is there an official 'post your gear' thread?

No - this thread itself is new - there were no pre-existing photography threads. Just threads where people showed off their photos.

Well rather than start a new thread, I'll just add my gear here:
Canon 5D Canon 20D Canon: - 50 f/1.8 - 16-35 /f2.8L II - 10-22 f/3.5-4.6 (or whatever that one is) - couple other EF-S lenses that I don't recall - 430 EX - 580 EX II - ST-E2 Sigma: - 24-70 f/2.8 - 70-200 f/2.8 Carried in a Kata R-103 Digital Rucksack, or a small Tamron shoulder bag. Need a Stealth Reporter or rolling bag too though.

I need a speed lite, I just got some Birthday cash so I've been thinking about getting a used one, hopefully I can find a 580ex.
I just got a tip on this program for my Machttp://www.pixelmator.com/ X11 works for me now, weird. I started up Gimp and it works, for a while it wouldn't. I don't know exactly what changed, but it works now. I'll play with that later.

Watch craigslist in your area, I see them available out here for decent prices. POTN is a good place as well.

Is anyone here using remote flash triggers? I'm thinking of tossing $25 at ebay and getting the cheapo's, based on strobist's suggestion. However, since I'm using a 420ex and 580ex, I need to have TTL functionality. Manual mode doesn't exist on the 420ex, and I'd like to use a 2 flash setup as I want.

I have the ST-E2, which lets you keep ttl, but it only pushes out 10-15 feet maybe.
Looking into the alien bees triggers & some of their lighting equipment. A friend is closing up his vegas studio, trying to pick up some pocket wizards from him. Hopefully.

Sorry for your friend, happy for you if you can do that.
Is the ST-E2 infrared? 10-15ft is really all I need at this point. If you end up getting the Pocket Wizards, would you be looking to sell your ST-E2?

well, it's his second studio, his detroit one is still doing quite well. he overpaid for an existing business, rather than starting from scratch here. it's a shame, but the way of the world.
Yes, it's IR. Once I pick up some good wireless transmitters/receivers, the ST-E2 will be for sale. I can let you know when I am able to part with it.

I have some cheap ebay ones. Work pretty alright for the price. Not sure about them working on TTL (100% of the time it's set on M).
Raw 100% of the time with my DSLR. Keeps the image quality when in post. |

I need to take pics of my gear and get involved in this thread more.
I actually have a nice studio lighting setup that I never use, I need to sell it for rally tires. lol Mamiya 645TL w/extra back (medium format SLR) Cannon EOS 3 (yes, film) canon 28mm-125mm canon L 100-400mm canon 2x converter (which gives me 800mm on the L zoom...at f11.5, its a pretty low cost/high performance set up.) Lots of filters...Cokin, which, for the price, is pretty cheap and they have a great system that allows me to easily go between the two cameras) flash for the canon and mamiya Pelican case and I forget what brand backpack I have.... Manfrotto tri pod and mono pod w/pistol grip and quick release mounts. 2 studio lights w/wireless slave, umbrellas/reflectors....for sale. |
