By the way... I know it's not exactly recommended... but honestly I'm curious!!

Is he make these with enough strength to push other cars out of the way?

lol - I'm not sure how to determine that but our original test looked as through you could pick the car with it. In all sincerity we did factor front end collisions into our design - hence the height of the loop. But I don't think it's something you'll be able to perform a P.I.T. Maneuver if that's what your wondering.

No I was thinking more for practical application. I end up using my car as an SUV a lot of the time when it's not going fast off road. I've had to pull trucks out of ditches and it would be nice to be able to push a stuck jeep out of my path... I mean... get them back on the road.

It would just be nice to not have to turn around and hook a tow strap to my trailer hitch! I'm definitely up for getting one of these when I can.

There is potential on the newer 08+ cars since there seems to be an option to add additional support directly to the bumper beam but that's sort of out of the scope of this project but that's not to say a customization isn't out of the picture for you.

Nice! Thanks for the info on it. I may own the WRX but I'm not structural engineer or even a welder here. haha. So I do appreciate your input here too.

Talking

FINAL PRICING !!!
  • $250 for the chromoly crash/light bar powder coated ($200 naked)
  • $150 integrated skid plate made from 1/8 aluminum
All modifications discussed will be incorporated - higher upper loop, tighter under bumper bend, under carriage cross bar, 6 point factory hole/bolt mounting*, etc.

Prices do not include shipping and pick up (group or individual) is available.

Please send PM. At the moment, I can only be certain it will be available for 02-07 as our plans for fitting the 08+ are still pending (at the time of this post).

This is really competitive price especially compared to the other products out there. Adam has worked hard on this and I need 10 commitments so please let me know if you are interested. If we a decent number more than ten you'll be part of bringing a new Vendor to our community.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your continued interest and patience.

* two factory holes in the sub-frame will need to be drilled/extended - easy and very harmless

Skemcin: I've gotta say, you've got an excellent product on your hands here... Of course, I don't have one, but at this price, and with these features, I think it's great. If I had the cash, and wasn't intending on making a custom bumper, I'd definitely get one.

I know you put a lot of consideration into the design, but I like the fact that you made those changes... I'm assuming you'll be using light tabs instead of inserts, or will it still be the inserts (although stainless and/or with a rubber plug)?

It won't fit my car, but I'd love to see a few pictures of the finished product... I may hijack a couple of your ideas for my bumper build.

Updated pictures here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/1016151...tBarMockUpCont

So, we've taken into consideration all the feedback and have incorporated it to the best of our ability. So we've got:
  • up to 8 light mounting inserts
  • skid plate (cardboard mock up - metal to follow)
  • frame reinforcement
  • 8 under carriage mounting points
  • radiator & oil pan protection
This is the final design - same price powder coated or naked and the skid plate might be cheaper.

Everything is still on schedule for final install and wiring this weekend. Post questions and comments. PM me for information on placing order.

Thanks.

Correct. Adam and I had a discussion about skid plates and your situation in particular. So, here was our logic:

A skid plate is essentially useless if it were placed between the subframe and the tubing. So, the skid plate has to be the lowest item otherwise nothing would be skidding. One of the things we observed in the skid plates we've seen is that the bolt heads are exposed and, for all intents and purposes, could be sheared off. So, this plate (not pictured yet) will have three mounting tabs on the front curl and then two on the rear curl - so the entire skid plate is flush - no exposed bolt heads. Our concern was that the right kind or number of hits would eventually claim a bolt head and/or beat the five spacers used for mounting. The spacers used on the popular plates only distribute impact on the five mounting points which are made of 3 inch pipe spacers. Our design keep the plate snug to the entire under-carriage loop and without exposed bolt heads really lets the plate skid unimpeded.

When we discussed your situation we recalculated the aluminum needed and figured that even if the price stayed the same (which it has the potential to being lower) you could sell the plate you have and for the same price that you'd get for that pay (if not save) money on the one needed for this.

In any respect, I think it would still be worth having you stop by again to see how your plate would line up with this bar - maybe a very subtle modification would be all that is needed to make it work.

Sorry for the lengthy reply - but I wanted to make sure that you (and others) understand that we truly are trying to make as universal and functional a product as we can.

UPDATE - pretty much final production work. Look at the welds (click image to view full size) - very nice, tight, and clean.
