Default Stage rally suspension.

Well im currently debating on what i want to go with for suspension for my rally car. Here are the options that im currently thoughing around in my head.

Hotbits - http://www.davenportracingusa.com/flash/
Allwheeldriven - http://parts.allwheelsdriven.net/ind...&products_id=2
DMS 50mm

Please im debating the pros and cons of each and i would like to know what people think of each, and how they have preformed if you have used them.

Of those, I've flown furthest on DMS. Probably thousands of stage miles and hardly ever an issue. A friend claimed his AWDriven arrived new w/ a scratched piston.

For a new rally driver, start with something cheap and strong. Hotbits DT1 is a good option, JVAB or allwheelsdriven is a good choice for a cheaper inverted coilover.

Save you money and invest it in safety gear and races. When you start bottoming out or losing races due to lack of adjustability, then splurge for the DMS or RS&SP's

I've seen a lot of random hotbits failures but a lot of people have success with them. Personally I ran the allwheelsdriven coilovers on my car and really liked them - for the price they are quite good. I've also run the ksports (not worth the money), rssp non-adjustable (good), rssp 1 way adjustable (very good), rssp 4 way adjustable (extremely good).

I'd go for either the rssp non or 1 way struts. They aren't listed on rallispec's site but if you call they can get them for you. reasonably priced. The DMS 50's are also a good option

you don't need to worry about either of these things if you are setup correctly and unless you are at the very pointy end of the stick, know what you are doing, and can test the changes you have made, you are not going to loose because you can't adjust your suspension.

the big question is... subaru? rs, wrx, gc8 fwd? whatcha got?

Thats actually exactly my point.

Until youre racing at a level where everyone is fine tuning suspension (correctly) and picking up fractions of a second to boot you off the podium, there is no reason to spend the extra $2-4000+ to get 2/4 way adjustable coilovers.

I have All Wheels Driven coilovers and I love them. Flew really far at 100AW and hit some big potholes/yumps without a single issue. Barrett is also a good guy to deal with, will answer any questions quickly.

Also, go check out some threads on RallyAnarchy where everyone is bending the JVAB stuff.... kinda why I went with AWD over JVAB, pretty much the same inserts, but AWD seems to have a stronger mounting tab design, plus Barrett isn't a complete dick in his online persona.

I'm another supporter of DMS. We ran a PGT WRX in the top 10 nationally in Canada for 3 years, over 10 events per year, and I don't think we EVER bent a strut (unless we crashed). If you've never been to rally Defi (IMO, at one point one of, if not the roughest rally in North America). We never lifted for ANYTHING, we jumped the car almost 120 feet at Baie, etc.

After doing a test day with the Talon, I am once again extremely happy to have DMS 50mms on my car. They are proven, and they just work!

Having said that, care to share some of the RS&SP pricing there Carl? DMS 50mms are now (afaik) only available in a new style and retailing for $6500(msrp)

The AWD stuff bends too, people just don't talk about it. They are both 40mm inserts. If you can wait a little bit there might be 50mm bilstein's on the market again.

Yep 40 mm stuff will Bend when you push it too hard. also the DMS 50s bend though its harder to do . (saw 2 different people with DMS bend one) Leelyn Just bent one of is AllWheelsDriven coilovers, and I Bent one of my JVABs at gorman ...

fly high, or start tapping berms at high speeds and stuff can and does bend. They only way to really "buy" your way out of that problem is to have 2 sets of what ever you are running. I've seen the RS&SP 9 or whatever uber setup have a damper failure on someone at Idaho a few years ago... I ended up taking off my STI coilovers to loan to a team...

anywho Definitely put JVAB on your list as well. for a subaru I think the rate is just a hair under $2k . but he can make suspension for any car.

personally i love the valving, I do have limited experience (been on stock 93, 98, 05, revalved 05 , Ksport, JVAB, and 1 test run in a Tein dirt trial) And i totally prefer the JVAB valving. I've done pretty well on the JVAB setup as well.

you should price them all out. see what the costs are to buy 6 coilovers (Personally I think 4 full coilovers, 2 dampers with ears, and probably 2-4 spare top hats) is a fairly safe bet to get you through even very rough rallies (gorman)

the Ksports i had were adjustable . and i was able to test hitting jumps and pot holes and i found dampening settings that seemed to give me the most control. But the JVAB Valving just feels so damn good. its obvious comparing my ksport settings to his valving that i didn't really know what i was doing (or the valving options were a little limited)

I'd rather run Ksport than stock. its soo much better, saves exhaust, skid plate, etc damage and adds control, safety and stage speed.

the JVABs take it up to a whole new level. i'm on their 40s. I'd love to end up on his 50s that are coming out ... but I don't know that i really "need" them at my level.. on a heavier car or more HP I'd be more tempted... (I'm in a RS 2.5)

As good as JVAB stuff is he is a pain in the arse to deal with. Dont expect to get em at the price and time frame he promises you... If you are looking for a decent setup go with All wheels driven stuff

How much are Proflex these days Damian?

depends on which set you want but from what i have seen is that peole here would rather buy cheep bits and complain about them not lasting , then have to go buy another set which puts them at the price of the proper units .

And that is a cheep damper to be honest .
A proper set of GRP N dampers from XTC or Reiger can run you up to 9k £
